One Millionaire Made Every 30 Hours

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

The downward spiral of our economy has gotten me thinking. What is the easiest way to turn this around? It’s a long shot but lottery definitely came in as an option and it seems my fellow Brits are also thinking on the same line. The National Lottery had always been popular but never before has it grown to such a scale. Latest National Lottery figures are in and they show sales reaching a new record of £6.5 billion. That’s a lot of money and the great thing about these numbers is that a lot of people are getting benefitted from this growth. To be precise, The National Lottery turned 288 Britons into overnight millionaires last year which accounts to one millionaire made every 30 hours. That’s a very impressive figure right?

Compared to last year, National Lottery sales have gone up 12% and the company even raised £750 Million of the London 2012 Olympics. Even though there is no solid evidence to back up the relation between the ongoing recession and the increase in sales, all you need is common sense to understand the public sentiment.

The success of Camelot and the National Lottery sure has generated buzz but as they, ‘the bigger the better’. There are reports coming in that after Euromillions, a new global lottery is all set to take centre stage. It is rumoured that the global lottery will be called GlobalMillions and the first draw would be held in early 2013. Since this is a global lottery, you can expect the jackpot to be worth many hundred millions of pounds. There’s a lottery I wouldn’t mind getting myself into.

But if you ask me the whole lottery prize distribution needs to be changed a little bit. Instead of showering hundreds of millions of pounds on a winner, wouldn’t it be better to have a cap on the winnings? It could be about £50M so that there would be more winners which will prompt even more players to buy tickets and make the lottery an even larger success. Win-win for everyone :-)

John Stape Promoted to Satan

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

Right from the era of black and white motion pictures, we’ve all hated villains. They are essential to the plot of any good movie and without a despicable villain, it just doesn’t seem right, right? As we love our hero’s we need someone to hate and that’s where these villains come in.

Over the years, we’ve seen many great villains come and go. Some of the greatest all time villains include George Siegmann as Silas Lynch, Peter Lorre as Hans Beckert, Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West, the list is endless. Soaps are no exception; you can find some of the evilest of evil villains in soaps and one of them has gotten a promotion, villain-wise.

Was glancing over the entertainment section this morning and it seems actor Graeme Hawley, 37 who plays John Stape in Coronation Street is all set to play the role of the ultimate villain Satan himself. People have been commenting that Graeme does not have the ‘pure evil’ look that Satan should have but I think he would make a great Satan. Trust me, this is no ordinary villain. He takes his evil very seriously. In fact, Graeme had been nominated for The Villain Of The Year in the 2009 and 2011 British Soap Awards for his portrayal of Stape. He was one of the main characters in Corrie with the plot constantly revolving around him. If you caught one of those episodes with him around, you would understand why he was chosen.

According to reports he has agreed to work in York’s Museum Gardens as the ultimate villain. Graeme will be working opposite Ferdinand Kingsley, son of legendary actor Sir Ben Kingsley who will be playing the role of both God and Jesus. With so much experience plotting evil, no wonder directors delighted to have him playing the devil himself. If you liked him as the villain in Corrie, then you’ll love him in Museum Gardens.

Dog Beats 500 Cyclists During Mountain Race

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Don’t you just love pet stories? I certainly do and stories such as these convince me that animals are better than humans in more ways than one. This is the story about a Chinese dog that completed 1700km on its cute four paws with cyclists who were touring the country. This dog nicknamed Xiaosa has become an internet sensation and is adored by thousands of dog lovers.

1700 kilometres? That’s just too much isn’t it? And from the videos posted over the internet, seems like Xiaosa completely enjoyed the whole journey. The peppy creature is seen running alongside the cyclists and in some places even waiting for the rest of the gang to arrive.

It all started when someone from a cycling group touring Sichuan province to Tibet offered the dog some food on the way. From then on, Xiaosa has been running with the cycling group and he ran approximately for 20 days covering as much as 60kms every day even climbing 10 mountains on the way.

One of the cyclists put up Xiaosa’s adventures on his blog and it attracted 40,000 followers by the time the race was over. When the cyclists found Xiaosa on the street, she was tired, hungry and after eating the meal cyclists offered her, she started running with them. Whether this was for more food or just her way of appreciating the kind gesture, we’ll never know but she’s one strong little dog.

It is reported that some of the cyclists couldn’t keep up with the group and had to take the bus during the journey which sometimes took the group through 4000 metre mountain climbs. The group had to climb over three mountains in total and Xiaosa scaled over all of them. Cyclists might have quit, but Xiaosa kept on track and finished the race. The cyclist who found Xiaosa now hopes to adopt the dog and give her a good home. We are with you dear cyclist and we hope you give Xiaosa a very nice home in which she can run around as much as she likes.

Brits Love Their Pets More Than Family

Monday, May 28th, 2012

Been hearing a lot of pet stories of late and one of them really caught my attention. This one is about a survey that showed that Brits missed their pets more than their immediate family members which got me thinking. In the same survey, one third of British pet owners stated that they would rather go out with their pets than their family members!

So how much do you really love your pets? Are you one of those people in the one-third list? I know its great to love your pets but I could never prefer them over family.

Sure, I’d like to treat my pets as family but cannot even think about leaving behind my family members to be with my pet. If you ask me, the survey in itself was a little silly but interesting to see that so many people thought alike.

Out of the total, another one third said that they have taken a pet on their vacation. Another 13 percent Brits admitted that they would rather prefer their pets on a vacation than their partners. While we are on the subject, here’s another wacky pet related story. A man in the Middle East had recently filed for divorce because of his wife’s cats. Before you think, hey that’s crazy, how can he do that, listen to the full story and you would certainly feel sorry for the guy.

This woman that we are discussing about here had 550 cats in total and it was making her husband’s life very difficult. According to reports, the husband couldn’t sleep because there was always some cat sleeping in his bed any time of the day and he couldn’t have dinner on his table because one of the many cats always stuck its head in his plate. Can you imagine that many cats living your home? I can live with one or two but no way 550! I don’t think even my local shelter would have that many cats. The couple tried to work things out, but the lady refused to part with her 550 cats and she wanted a divorce. All’s well that’s end well, the man got his divorce and can finally sleep on a bed without cats. As for the lady, let’s hope she and all her 550 cats live happily ever after.
