In case you haven’t heard, there is a new trend that is catching on called as “mirror fasting”. Any guesses on what this is? No? I’ll tell you, it is the recent trend among women avoiding the number of times they stare into a mirror. This new movement is reportedly from a group of US bloggers and the trend has gone viral.
These female bloggers recommend women to cut down on the number of hours they spent in front of the mirror and its not just real mirrors, even reflections in monitors, glass panes or anything which reflect your image back.
According “experts” who are promoting this new trend, looking into the mirror too much can make a girl become obsessed about the way she presents herself and it can even lead to depression. As crazy as it might sound, it actually does make sense.
A recent study had revealed that British women look in the mirror as many as 38 times in a day and men did the same about 18 times. In another unrelated survey, one fifth of every teen girl in UK admitted that they could not even bring themselves to barely look in the mirror. So I guess this mirror fasting thing is actually good for improving the self confidence in these girls.
Figures for this survey from above were collected from about 1000 girls aged between 12 and 18. Two thirds of these girls wanted to lose weight really bad and 63% of the lot admitted they were under pressure to change the way they look. Even if this new trend goes viral, I don’t think mirrors and girls will part their ways any time soon. It’s a relationship that has stood the test of time and will probably stay strong for many centuries to come.
